How to pace the Amsterdam Marathon
Amsterdam is flat and fast — a common choice for an autumn PR — with the Olympic Stadium start and finish and long stretches along the Amstel river and through the Vondelpark.
The riverside sections are exposed, so wind is the main variable rather than elevation. A crosswind or headwind on the out-and-back along the Amstel can make honest effort look like a slow split.
With no hills to set your rhythm, hold goal pace from 5 km and treat the return into the stadium as the place to spend whatever is left.
Set a goal finish time above and the calculator builds a split plan for this course, grade-adjusted from its elevation profile. New to pacing? Read the pacing strategy guide.
