How to pace the Tokyo Marathon
Tokyo is fast and mostly flat, with a gentle net drop over the first 5 km out of Shinjuku and a few highway overpasses and turnaround points that break rhythm rather than cost real time.
The out-and-back sections mean you will run stretches into a headwind and then with it; do not read too much into a single slow or fast kilometre through those.
The course is flattest in the second half through Ginza and out toward the finish near Tokyo Station. A controlled first 10 km sets up a strong, even close.
Set a goal finish time above and the calculator builds a split plan for this course, grade-adjusted from its elevation profile. New to pacing? Read the pacing strategy guide.
