How to pace the Sydney Marathon
Sydney front-loads its hardest work. The climb onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge comes inside the first 5 km, and there are further rises through the city and around the eastern edge before halfway.
This profile makes a hard even-pace start risky. Give time back on the early climbs, run the bridge by effort, and keep the first 10 km a touch conservative.
The back half toward the Opera House Forecourt finish is flatter and net downhill in places. Legs paced with restraint through the first-half hills can run the final 10 km at or under goal pace.
Set a goal finish time above and the calculator builds a split plan for this course, grade-adjusted from its elevation profile. New to pacing? Read the pacing strategy guide.
