How to pace the Manchester Marathon
Manchester is flat, wide, and well-organised — the UK’s second-largest marathon and a course marketed on being friendly to fast times.
The loop through Trafford, Sale, and Altrincham has only minor undulation, with a couple of gentle drags rather than real hills. Run in mid-April, conditions are usually cool.
With nothing on the profile to set a rhythm, pace off the clock: settle onto goal pace by 5 km and hold it through the flat middle and back into the city for the finish.
Set a goal finish time above and the calculator builds a split plan for this course, grade-adjusted from its elevation profile. New to pacing? Read the pacing strategy guide.
