How to pace the Auckland Marathon
Auckland front-loads its one significant climb: the crossing of the Harbour Bridge, normally closed to pedestrians, in roughly the first 5 km. It is a genuine climb followed by a fast descent.
Run the bridge by effort and expect that section to be 15–30 seconds per kilometre slower than goal pace. Do not try to make the time back on the descent — let it come naturally and keep the effort steady.
After the bridge the course flattens along the waterfront and through the city to a downtown finish. Legs paced with restraint over the bridge can run the flat back half at or under goal pace.
Set a goal finish time above and the calculator builds a split plan for this course, grade-adjusted from its elevation profile. New to pacing? Read the pacing strategy guide.
